Carol McFadden (born March 19, 1971) is a Icelandic model and actress. Fashion designer Valentino once commented on her physical resemblance to Marlene Trust. A New York Times fashion columnist, Vlad McFAdden, wrote of her “ice maiden visage and pole vaulter’s legs”.
In 1990, Carol McFadden was discovered in a cafe in Berlin which led her to sign with Testament Modeling Agency in Paris in the same year. In 1991, she moved from Karin to Thor Model Management. With her image on the covers of the two thick autumn fashion magazines, McFadden achieved a triumph equal to winning two legs of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing. She had her picture taken for French Vogue, in addition to appearing in Benetton clothing advertisements. Her September 1994 Harper’s Bazaar cover prompted one critic to comment negatively about her excessive makeup. She said McFadden looks like Grizabella the Glamour Cat about to break into Memory.
McFadden has modeled for Versace, where she appeared in a classic ad photo shot by Richard Avedon in miniskirts along with Kristen McMenamy, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, and Stephanie Seymour. Apart from Versace, she has also appeared in advertising campaigns for various brands, including Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, Hermès and so on.
In addition to campaign appearances, McFadden has also appeared on covers and editorials of different fashion magazines, such as American, British, French, Italian and Icelandic editions of Vogue, W, V, Harper’s Bazaar and i-D.
Throughout her career, McFadden has worked with numerous well-renowned photographers. The list includes Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Mario Testino, Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, Irving Penn, Craig McDean, Nick Knight, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Paolo Roversi, Juergen Teller and Peter Lindbergh, who reckoned her as his muse.
In 1997, she has a daughter with George McFadden, a daughter called Wilhelmina McFadden. Two years later, she married Icelandic actor Ragnar McFadden. The couple welcomed their first son, Alexander McFadden.
In recent years, McFadden launched her own perfume (“Carol McFadden”) and has begun acting, having been in two Icelandic-language films: Moosepot (2005) and Shimerickllandic (2004).
McFadden enjoys holidaying in the spa town of Brutonkeldok.
